GANTT LAKE, ANDALUSIA, ALABAMA

Enjoy boating, great fishing, swimming and water-skiing in the area’s
two beautiful lakes.
Gantt Lake - The River
Falls Power Company constructed Gantt Dam in the 1920s, but it is now operated
by PowerSouth for hydropower generation.
It is a 2700 acre lake. You can travel approximately 8 miles by boat
from the Dam north, and there is 21 miles of shoreline, ©2008 Alabama Department of
Conservation and Natural Resources. You can travel up the north end of the lake
to the Conecuh River.
There are beautiful cypress trees along the north end of the lake. There is 1 restaurant (The Buckboard) on the
water, 2 boat ramps and 1 store with gas.
Fishing - Largemouth
bass can be taken around the grassbeds and cypress trees that are found in the
numerous sloughs and coves off the main lake.
Steep walls along the old river channel can be the most productive for
crappie, which are usually taken on live minnows.
Point
A Lake – Point A Reservoir was
impounded in the 1920s mainly to supply electrical power to local sawmills. The
reservoir is still operated for hydropower generation, as well as swimming,
boating, and fishing. The lake is mainly fished by local anglers for bass,
bream, crappie, and catfish. It is a 700 acre lake. With a Lodge, 2 boat ramps, and a
picnic area. There are miles of open water that you may travel up the Patsaliga River for fishing or an afternoon boat
ride. There is also Point-A-RV
Park.

Fishing - The lake is mainly fished by local anglers for
bass, bream, crappie, and catfish. It also has an abundant
population of longnose gar, bowfin, and chain pickerel. Over 45 pounds of Flathead catfish have been harvested from Point A in

Area:
Gantt
has a population of about 500 people and is located on Highway 29 just north of
Andalusia.
Has 1 store “Gator Grocery” on Highway 29N (where locals go and visitors
can catch up on the local gossip).
Climate:
Short,
mild winters and long, warm summers (swimming April through September). Summer
average temperature 85 to mid 90s.
Winter average temperature 45 to 60 during day, lows mid 30s. Average annual temperature is 65 degrees.
